ABOUT SELF-SIMILAR

Self-Similar creates original, genre-fluid music from layers of organic and synthetic instrumentation. Multi-instrumental experimentalists, Sara Similar and Darshan McMahon self-produce loops of anything from drums and guitars to synths and sax, blending in often-lyricless vocalizations. The result is an atmospheric, hypnotic sound that hits more like a full band than a duo.

Self-Similar enjoyed collaborating with various musicians on their demo EP and upcoming debut album. Flautist Gwyneth Lynn Ravenscraft adds their expertise to a few tunes and cellist Kate Wakefield beautifully recreated the strings on another. A second full-length album is already in progress, which is set to feature even more local talent. Peter Gorak contributes violin to a track and producer Brad Hoffman (aka Pyradigm) lays down the bass for a song. 

Sara utilizes her education and artistry for the band’s photography, videography, and graphic design. Collectively, the members of the band have the skills to offer a variety of multi-media services.
